It’s okay, we’ve ALL done it. Committed to a “new year, new me” plan that involved going to the gym, drinking gallons of water daily, and of course sticking to that diet. Everyone starts strong in January, but as the cold weather goes on and on, it can be challenging to stick to those strict guidelines and hit those ambitious goals.
The good news: It’s not too late for a Spring Reboot.
Follow our tips to get back on track towards those 2017 goals.
1. Create a new plan that works with your life.
If you’ve tried and tried to get up for a run at 5:00 AM, but just can’t do it, find another time to workout. Maybe it’s during your lunch break or after the kids go to bed. What matters is that you find a time that works for you and your life.
2. Set SMART Goals. Specific-Measurable-Achievable-Realistic-Timebound.
General Goal: “I want to workout more and lose weight.”
SMART Goal: “My goal is to run two days per week, and to complete 16 miles over the next four weeks.”
3. Use external accountability.
Having a gym partner can be a great tool for accountability, but sometimes it can backfire. There are plenty of apps (MyFitnessPal, DietBet) that have been created to help you stay on track to reach your goals. Another option is to sign up with a trainer or coach to help keep you accountable.
